Parent-child Bonding is an important aspect for not only the child but also for the parents involved.
Indeed, there is a plethora of information out there that supports the notion that bonding with your children greatly supports the premise that when children receive the proper attention they are more likely to succeed in virtually every area.
Conversely, being a parent should also be a joyous event, and being instrumental in the raising of one’s children helps improve the quality of life of the parents involved as well.
Using sports for parent-child bonding has a plethora of advantages that make it perfect for parent-child bonding. Sports promote teamwork, it’s fun for the whole family, it can be inexpensive, it’s generational, it improves health and increases confidence – all attributes that make sports the perfect bonding experience.
Sports Improve Teamwork:
One of the most important and relevant skills a person can have is understanding how to be a part of a team.
As we mature into adulthood, one of the fundamental things we need to know is how to work collectively with others in a team setting, and sports allow kids to be exposed to this very important concept.
With sports, for example, parents can participate by showing children how to be part of a team and how to work with others in that environment.
As a family, for instance, you can grow as a ‘team’ in both sports and then later in life.
By teaching kids how to work with each other in sports, the teamwork perspective spills over into everyday life.
And when kids realize the vast improvement in their attitude and overall demeanor they become excited and grateful, and this translates into a huge bonding opportunity for everyone involved.
Sports Can Be Fun:
Let’s face it unless you are addicted to the couch watching television and other forms of lazy entertainment, sports can be an insane form of fun for everyone involved.
Naturally, not all sports are created equal and the range of skills required. However, there are some skills required and ones that will improve as you consistently incorporate them into your weekly lives.
But that’s part of the fun right?
By watching these areas of required skill to improve in both you and your family make utilizing sports a great way for the entire family to have an unlimited fun time and again.
Moreover, having the pleasure to encourage each other’s improvements – or lack of – sure adds to the fun and entertainment of the whole experience.
Sports Can Be Inexpensive:
Notwithstanding sports like hockey and other privileged activities, sports can be a very inexpensive way to have fun and bond with your kids at a very cheap price tag.
If you have a backyard you could easily put up a volleyball net or if you have a budget of several hundred dollars you could also invest in some goalposts endless fun playing soccer.
But don’t let this discourage you if you don’t have much room, or you live in an apartment.
There are plenty of areas where parks are abundant, and most places have some tennis courts set up as well; it’s important to get creative and discover your surroundings.
One way you can do this is simply google keywords like “parks near me” or other related keywords that will instantly connect you to nearby surroundings.
It’s A Generational Thing:
Sports a pretty amazing thing to participate in, after all, it’s an activity that can be passed on from generation to generation.
It doesn’t matter what type of sport you and your family participate in – baseball, football, basketball – they can all be passed down from generation to generation as a sort of family event that everyone can participate in.
In other words, you can enjoy seeing your family bonding and building deep relationships over practically any sport while cultivating strong memories that everyone can laugh about over the diner table for generations to come.
Sports Improve Health And Wellness:
In this day of age where diabetes, obesity, and heart disease is rapidly on the rise, it’s good to know that some families are aware that sports and fitness is still a viable option to improve health, wellness, and family bonding.
You may be wondering at this point how does this fits into parent-child bonding?
On the surface, it seems like the two are probably not related, however, what many folks fail to realize is that a healthy mind and body translates into many other areas in their lives.
And since your kids will feel better through your physical interaction they will attribute it all to you and your ability to encourage them to be more fit and healthy.
There’s no better feeling than to have your entire family get in shape and motivate each other to keep it up.
Sports Increase Confidence
There’s no doubt that sports increases confidence to a level that can be felt in only a few months or less (providing that there is a level of consistency and effort).
And the cool thing is that it doesn’t matter which sport you and your family are involved in, they all produce similar results – hand-eye coordination, speed, and dexterity to name a few.
Some sports are going to accelerate these attributes quicker and with heightened results. Football requires much more effort than badminton for example, but that’s not the point.
Despite what sport you and your family are engaged in, the result will mean a stronger and healthier bond for you and your children so don’t get hung up on which sport is better; they all work wonderfully for the purpose of using sports for parent child bonding.
Sports are a wonderful addition to any family looking for a healthy and viable way to bond with their children.
I also made a point to highlight that it’s not necessarily the type of sports you engage in, but rather it’s the participation that matters the most.
Case in point: As I write this post from my home in Canada, we are still in quarantine lockdown and there are no outside sports to participate in if we want to use soccer, football, or a baseball field.
It’s certainly challenging times indeed, and on the surface, it would seem like we would have put things on hold.
However, I created a circuit workout my daughter and I can do in the park that takes 30 minutes every other day.
Not only is she having fun with her dad, but she’s getting fit and learning more about her body in the process.
What I’m trying to say is work with what you have, make a real effort, and in the end, your kids will recognize that you value time spent with them and that’s what really matters.
